BioSilver - Disinfectant, Fungicide and Virucide
BioSilverTM Technology
Silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC) is the basis of BioSilver. SDC is the patented molecule of PURE Bioscience of El Cajon, California. SDC is an electrolytically generated source of ionic silver stabilized in citric acid, with a shelf life of several years, far surpassing the shelf life of hours to days of other silver based disinfectants.

How it works:
SDC kills micororganisms by two modes of action.
  • the silver ion deactivates structural and metabolic membrane proteins leading to microbial death;
  • the microbes view SDC as a food source, allowing the silver ion to enter the microbe. Once inside, the silver ion denatures the DNA, which halts the microbe’s ability to replcate and leads to its death. This dual action makes SDC highly and quickly effective against a broad spectrum of microbes.

BioSilver FAQ:
Q:
What is the difference between a Disinfectant and a Sanitizer and why does this matter?
A:

A Sanitizer by definition reduces the number of germs on a surface, while a disinfectant completely eliminates them.
A surface that is only sanitized leaves germs behind, which quickly begin to reproduce.

Q:
What’s wrong with the leading brand I've been using all these years?
A:

Besides being hazardous (see the rear labels for Precautionary Statements, Warnings, Hazards, Notes to Physician, etc.) most people will be surprised to learn that they do not use their leading brand of disinfectant properly! A review of the directions on the rear label will reveal that "TO DISINFECT: must maintain 10 minute wet contact time". Since most people simply spray and wipe almost immediately, the product cannot do its job and as a result, the surfaces are not disinfected. Similar to getting a flu shot, when germs are exposed to, but not destroyed by other products, they can begin to develop a resistance to it. BioSilver kills certain organisms in 30 seconds, 2 minutes for resistant bacteria (MRSA, VRE) and 10 minutes for fungus*. When used as directed, germs are destroyed completely by BioSilver and they cannot develop a resistance to it. Additionally, the US EPA does not require our product to bear most Precautionary Statements or First Aid instructions.
* See label for organisms killed vs. contact time required.

Q:
How is BioSilver more user friendly than the leading brands, and how can you prove it?
A:

Any product which makes a “kill claim” must be registered with the US EPA. Part of the registration process is a review of the labeling, which the EPA stamps “accepted”. If you compare the BioSilver label against the label of a leading brand disinfectant, it is what you don’t see that tells our story: You will not see any Warning or Caution wording on the front panel; you will not see Hazards to Humans and Domestic Animals, Personal Protective Equipment, First Aid, Note to Physician, or Physical & Chemical Hazard words or language on the back label, as you will with any of the leading brands.

Q:
I’ve noticed "safer" and "greener" looking disinfectants lately in the supermarket aisle. What is the story with those?
A:

The traditional disinfectants are generally based on quat, alcohol, or bleach chemistry. The manufacturer’s have generally further diluted the amount of active ingredient in an attempt to be perceived as a "safe" or "green" product. Check the active ingredients section of the front panel of the label to see for yourself. Also note that the same cautions and warnings persist, despite the weaker formulations.

Q:
How do I use BioSilver?
A:

BioSilver is ready to use right out of the container. Simply spray, pour, or mop on, and allow to remain wet for the appropriate contact time. Then, wipe off. No rinsing required. See label for contact times against various bacteria, virus, and fungus.

Q:
Do I have to worry about fabrics?
A:
Although not registered for use on fabrics as a disinfectant, BioSilver will not stain or damage fabric if contact occurs.

Q:
BioSilver is more expensive than traditional disinfectants. How can I rationalize the expense?
A:

Very simply put, BioSilver is more user friendly, faster, and more effective than any other disinfecting product on the market. It is effective against a broader range of organisms, effective against organisms that other products cannot even impact, and requires no Personal Protective Equipment or relocation of people to be used. When you calculate the cost of using a product which does not get the job done in terms of man hours, down time, potential service interruptions (i.e. closing facilities to disinfect due to outbreaks) medical costs etc., the answer becomes quite clear.
